SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL MIX
PARAT Technology pursues a clear vision: shaping the future of plastics sustainably. Sustainability and the saving of resources are also becoming more important to the BMW Group.In this context, PARAT worked hand in hand with BMW to find new materials in order to make existing luggage compartment moulded mats more sustainable. In its production, the proven thermoforming technology will continue to be used in order to fulfil customer requirements as usual.
The use of materials with 25 % Sea Plastics and 30 % PCR (post-consumer recyclate) helps to reduce the environmental footprint and support the goals of both companies in terms of sustainability.
NEW MATERIALS - PROVEN TECHNOLOGIES
The task was to adapt the new material in a way that the end product would be the same as the conventional materials, both in terms of thermoforming and later in terms of quality. It is intended to create a sustainable alternative with no loss of quality, functionality or aesthetics.The close co-operation between the material supplier, BMW and PARAT was absolutely key to the success of the project. The new car boot mats are equipped with an anti-slip and waterproof surface in accordance with the highest standards of quality. They are also customised to specifically fit the car model and are aesthetically designed using an innovative combination of thermoforming and sewing processes or the use of high-quality metal inserts.
